Latin LOLCat: Harm No One

Here is today's Latin LOLCat. The Latin word neminem which you see here is from nemo, "nobody" - and yes, that is the origin of the name Captain Nemo, who is "Captain Nobody." The word nemo itself is a contraction: ne+(h)omo, no+person = no person, nobody, no one. A fuller form of this saying, a maxim of Schopenhauer, is Neminem laede, immo omnes, quantum potes, iuva - "Harm no one; rather, help everyone as much as you are able." If you are interested in Latin proverbs and fables, check out the Bestiaria Latina blog.

Neminem laede.

Harm no one.
